I have never read through an exhaustive reading list before. Also, this isn't going to be an exhaustive list. I'm going to attempt to put together a list that doesn't require a lot of background information, but as these things go, sometimes you'll have to re-read portions of books to get their benefit. I took it as a good excuse to write a blog post with some of my recommendations. This week, the talented Julien Fitzpatrick (btw, you should check out their RustConf talk if you haven't already) asked what a good list would be for people who are interested in programming languages and compilers.
